Tobal 2 is a continuation of the warmly acclaimed fight entitled Tobal No. 1, which was developed by the authors of the original, i.e. DreamFactory studio. Like the original, the production was developed with the PS1 console in mind. Officially, the position has never left Japan's borders, but after years it has been translated into English for fans.

Mechanics

The gameplay scheme in Tobal 2 is based on the solutions developed for the first installment of the cycle. The pillar of play continues to be fights in three-dimensional arenas, where players can use fist punches, kicks and dodges, as well as lead out rapid counter-attacks, grab opponents or block their blows. However, the whole thing has been extended by the possibility of releasing fireballs; although they can damage the health of the player using this game, they deal a lot of damage to the attacked adversary. We have at our disposal a number of different players, whose list can be increased by monsters captured in one of the game modes.

Game modes

Like its predecessor, the Tobal 2 on the PS1 console features both player-specific fun variants and a Versus mode where we can take on the other player. Also returning is the Quest Mode, which has been significantly expanded compared to its original. This time, not only six dungeons are waiting to be visited, but also the central city, where our heros can sleep, eat or go shopping. A character development system has also been implemented here, thanks to which we can increase the strength of the protagonist's individual limbs and increase the value of the defense coefficient, which allows him to face increasing threats. In addition, monsters defeated in the underground can be captured using a special crystal and used as playable players in Versus mode. All of this is complemented by the ability to record the state of play in one of the temples.

Technical issues

Tobal 2 works in sixty frames per second, and the graphic design of this production has improved significantly compared to the original. The projects of the characters were once again supervised by talented Akira Toriyama. It is worth noting that the title hit the Japanese store shelves on the day of the premiere, falling on DualShock, being the first fight using the capabilities of this controller.
